Important Notice Regarding UV Curing and Safety Precautions For Working With 3D Printed Products

At Northwestern Scale Models LLC, we prioritize both the quality of our products and the safety of our customers. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the following important information regarding UV curing and safety precautions associated with our models.

UV Curing during Production: Our models undergo UV curing as part of the production process to enhance their stability and durability. While this UV curing is essential for ensuring the overall quality of our products, it's crucial to note that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can result in further curing. This extended exposure may lead to unintended consequences such as warping and brittleness in certain parts of the model.

Intentional Curing of Specific Parts: To mitigate the risk of warping and brittleness our models are intentionally cured for a predetermined duration. This intentional curing is designed to maintain flexibility during the assembly process. Once the model is primed and painted, the curing process will significantly diminish. Therefore, we advise against leaving parts exposed to direct sunlight or UV light for extended periods until the assembly is complete.

Notice Regarding 3D Printing Technology: As 3D printing technology continues to advance, the presence of build lines is gradually becoming a thing of the past. However, we acknowledge that we're not entirely there yet. Here's what you need to know

90% Disappearance with Primer: In most cases, approximately 90% of build lines will vanish after the application of your first coat of primer. While you may still visually detect build lines, running a fingernail over them typically reveals a smooth surface texture.

Addressing Persistent Build Lines: Should you encounter a model where build lines persist even after priming, some additional steps may be necessary. This could involve sanding and potentially filling the affected areas. It's crucial to note that if sanding is required, always opt for wet sanding to minimize the risk of inhaling harmful resin dust particles.

Quality Assurance Efforts: 3D Central strives to meticulously inspect each model for any irregularities in the printing process. However, despite their best efforts, occasional flaws may still occur. If you encounter deep lines or any other obvious printing flaws, please don't hesitate to reach out to 3D Central for further assistance.

Safety Precautions for Handling: When handling 3D printed resin objects, it is crucial to follow basic safety precautions to ensure your well-being. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and respirators, especially during tasks like drilling, cutting or filing. These safety measures are essential for protecting you from potential hazards and ensuring the longevity of your model.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and commitment to safety. By adhering to these guidelines, you can enjoy a positive experience with our products while safeguarding your safety and the integrity of your model.
